I'm on summer holydays and I decided to invest a little time to do some works in my garage. Reorganizing spaces and moving cases with old rubbish - rubbish that takes up a lot of space but I don't want to scrap, NEVER!!
Old rubbish such as one hundred of old VHS tapes containing great 80s Hollywood movies, like "Back To The Future", "Top Gun", "Big Trouble In Little China", "Labyrinth", "Ghostbusters", "The Blues Brothers" and other titles, plus italian masterpieces too, such as "Bud Spencer & Terence Hill" movies, "Don Camillo" and prince Antonio De Curtis-"Totò". The films of my family and my childood during the 90s; old movies recorded from TV from the beginning of the 90s until the early 2000s.
These old tapes in colorful paper cases, watched hundreds and hundreds of times, unforgettable moments of happiness at a low resolution, with scratches, missing parts and wonderful TV spots. TV spots of the 90s were colorfoul masterpieces, full of good and human madness and good music. A Re.Ca.We.St. topic to talk about best 90s TV spots will be created.
An era in which people don't need 1080p or 4K and incredible audio systems to enjoy a movie.
Only a heavy cathode-ray tube TV, a VCR, good company and pop corn!!!!
As I said, my old VHS are part of my childhood that I can't trash. Weird and nice paper sleeves of old brands, most of them probably disappeared today. TV recordings made by my grandfather (1928-2003) between 1994 and 1997, my brother and me.
From 96 until 2000 I filled about 15 VHS tapes with "The Simpsons" episodes (losts); during the summer of 2004, I recordered the 60s James Bond saga (Sean Connery's films only) from TV. My last recordings.
So, here's the bottom line:
I don't have the heart to trash MY OLD VHS !!!!!
I have about one hundred VHS tapes that were sadly stored in my garage for 21 Years in open cases, ruined by mice as you'll see in the pictures I posted below; I'm sure of one thing: NONE of my VHS will ever go into a VCR to be played.
Anyway, I dedicated tuesday morning and afternoon to clean meticulously ALL of my VHS, piece by piece, wearing gloves and using microfiber cloth, a brush, ethanol/distilled water mixture and my trusty Stanley compressor.
These are Back To The Future part I and part II (1985/1989).
-Una Pallottola Spuntata = The Naked Gun
Italian translations of international movie titles are WEIRD, believe me!
-Gremlis (1984)
-I Due Spuerpiedi Quasi Piatti = Crime Busters (1977)
Misteri was an italian TV program about paranormal and parapsychology on air in 1994. This VHS contains an episode on Roswell alien authopsy that traumatized my childhood.
Thanks for reading.
See you next sunday!
