About my turntables... from '14 to '24

I started my personal adventure with turntables, records, etc. ten years ago, during the summer of 2014, and never stopped.

First turntable of my life was a broken down Pioneer Pl-122D, a device from '70s purchased on eBay during the summer of 2014; at the time I was totally inexpert:
simply a boy fascinated by old things...

Broken plexiglass, visible at the top on the right;
the pivot of the platter was crooked: so the platter was abnormally crooked!!!

Useless.

I've bartered the Pl-112 with a (working) 1990 Thorens TD-280 MkII, made with sad plastic;
never liked this one, never appreciated the "auto lift", wich stopped most of the records seconds before the end of the last track!!
I used this turntable to learn the basics things, like set up the correct cartridge weight, the Anti-skate and the best way to use a protractor.
Mine from 2014 to 2020.

I always loved the design of the Technics SL1200, but an original one was to expensive for me;

so:

Audio Technica AT-LP140XP, probably one of the best imitation of the SL-1200s; but unfortunately made with cheap materials... in the pic you can see it playing "Sid Sings", a wonderfoul and explicit album from 1979, with live recordings by punk star Sid Vicious.

Punk milestone!

Enjoyed this turntable until the beginning of 2024.

IV turntable:

Rega Planar 3.

A very nice turntable, with minimal design, glass platter, and sounds fantastic in my system with his dedicated cartridge: the famous Rega Elys 2.

Sold after three months.

Final and probably definitive turntable, a dream come true, the Technics Sl-1500C:

I love the Technics design, and tonearms with "SME" type headshell sockets, because these offers wide choice of cartridges you can mount on your turntable.
So, you can understand why I've sold the P3 and purchased the 1500C...

1500C sounds great in my system, with the factory mounted Ortofon 2M Red.
But I'm planning upgrades, like new cables and a different cartridge.

That's all!

Stay tuned and.......

.......sorry for my english!

"Welcome To The Pleasuredome" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood (1984)

One of the first 33 rpm 12" added in my collection in 2014,
a fantastic album by "Frankie Goes To Hollywood":

exactly the record number "25" in my collection; I did usually bought some 45 rpm (7") before this...

I knew "FGTH" only for the hits "Relax", "Two Tribes" (thanks GTA Vice City!!) and "The Power Of Love". I was attracted by this band, so I decided to buy theyr first debut album in UK through "DiscoGS".

And here's my copy, original 1984 first UK release, in excellent (or "Near Mint") conditions!

The wonderfoul Picassian style gatefold cover:

particular:

A wonderful and colourful pop rock/electonic album, with visible/udible explicit contents; one of my favourite in my collection! An '80s milestone!

By listening the entire album, I discovered (!) that this band produced other great tracks, more than the usual "Relax"; tracks like: 👇

See you next sunday!

== LET'S START THE ADVENTURE !! ==

 Well,

this blog will officially STARTS THIS EVENING!

A blog dedicated to my passion for records (LPs), turntables and jukeboxes, vintage/weird stuff like typewriters and cars...

So, let's start with these new items from UK, added this week in my "collection":

three records from the end of the '70s to the middle '80s.

1: "VIENNA" by Ultravox, original Chrysalis lp from 1980, UK print.
     Fourth studio album by Ultravox, but the first Ultravox album in my collection; bought for "All Stood Still" track and because I love "New Wave", "Electro", etc. and...... I'm a "Visage" fan.

2: "RIPTIDE" by Robert Palmer, original '85 Island record (with the palm tree and the rainbow!!), UK print with inner/lyrics.
     eight and hyperactive (!) solo studio album by Robert Palmer! Second Palmer album in my collection.

3: "EAT TO THE BEAT" by Blondie; original '79 Chrysalis record, UK print obviously, with inner (no lyrics) and a merchandise paper...

fourth studio album by Blondie, fourth in my collection.
